Sheriff's Team Wins First Place
On Sunday, March 7th, 2010 the Orange County Sheriff’s Running Team competed in the Scorpion Relay (Mixed Category) at Bonelli Regional Park, San Dimas. This annual event is hosted by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department and attracts many law enforcement teams throughout Southern California.

OCSD Members Attend Funeral
At least 14 members of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, including Sheriff Hutchens, traveled to Oakland last week for the emotional funeral of four Oakland Police Officers killed in the line of duty.

Cavazos, 25, is Lake Forest Police Service's new crime prevention specialist. She started with the Orange County Sheriff Department nearly two years ago and first developed a crime-prevention program with the department in Rancho Santa Margarita.

San Juan Capistrano Police Services is proud to nominate Deputy Joseph Cope for the American Legion Law and Order Award for 2009. During this past year, Deputy Cope has handled a multitude of assignments. He is the Administrative Deputy who manages the parking citation program which includes both processing the citations and dismissals.

The Orange County Law Enforcement Explorer Advisor Association (OCLEEAA) sponsored the 2010 Winter Explorer Academy. The event was held at the Boys Scouts Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center February 11 through February 15.

Deputy of the Year
Deputy Mike Rupley
The Deputy of the Year program was created by the City of San Juan Capistrano in 1990 to recognize superior performance by a deputy assigned to the City of San Juan Capistrano. Deputies are nominated from within the Sheriff’s Department and recognized by the City Council on an annual basis. This year’s selection is Deputy Michael Rupley.

Investigator Brian Sims, of South Investigations, received an award from the United States Attorney's Office for his part in the arrest and conviction of a man who sold technology which was critical to the operation of the Abrams Main Battle Tank, to the People's Republic of China.
